The gold ring danio (Brachydanio tinwini) is a small fish native to northern Myanmar where it inhabits slower moving, often marginal sections of well oxygenated streams and minor rivers. Mature fish reach a size of just over one inch long. Females are generally have a more round belly and are slightly larger than males. Males in spawning condition will intensify in color and females will be noticeably full of eggs.
The gold ring danio should be maintained in an aquarium of 10 gallons or larger. Smooth rocks, driftwood (ZM2000) and live or artificial plants may be used, as well as a sandy substrate (CS7538). These fish look great in a heavily planted tank with a dark substrate and floating plants to diffuse some of the light.
The gold ring danio prefers a water temperature of 65°F to 79°F, a pH of 6.05 to 7.5, and a hardness of 1 to 5°H. Be sure water is clean and well oxygenated.

The gold ring danio is suitable for a very peaceful community aquarium. Good tank mates include small tetras, micro rasboras, pygmy cories, otocinclus catfish, and small gouramis such as chocolate and licorice gouramis. Gold ring danios should be kept in schools of at least 8 to 10 individuals to promote schooling behaviors and make these small fish more comfortable..
The gold ring danio is easy to feed in the aquarium and will readily accept just about any appropriately sized food item such as flakes (AL165) and frozen brine shrimp (SF6777). For maximum color, growth, and health these fish will look their best when given probiotics (AL169) in addition to a balanced diet.
